This commission piece by acrylics and oils artist, Laura Boilini was done for a dear friend's lanai. She was going with serene colors and wanted a piece that reflected the soft colors of nature. Laura did the background and tree first, then added the nest and birds, per her friend's request. With Laura's style, the painting is fairly thick, so extra varnish helps to withstand the elements.
Laura likes to paint on unusual surfaces. Here she painted flowers on seashells and on wine bottles, which she then put in small twinkling lights.
Even when painting these types of surfaces, she still uses a thick hand with her paints. This creates depth and movement that you don't normally see in oils.
