David's artistic journey began, as many artistic journeys do, with a leap of faith and a generous gift. In his own words, his early attempts were "mostly error," a testament to the unwavering dedication it takes to hone one's craft. It all began with a box of oil paints, a gift from his grandmother, that sparked a lifelong fascination with the world of art.

While his father's military service stationed them at Pearl Harbor, David found himself captivated by the raw beauty and power of the ocean and the coastal landscapes that surrounded him. This profound connection to the maritime world left an indelible mark, forever influencing his artistic vision.

For the next twenty years, art took a backseat as David embarked on a successful career in Naval aviation, followed by commercial flying. However, upon his third and final retirement, the artistic embers were rekindled by his wife, Hartley. With her unwavering support and encouragement, David returned to the world of painting, ready to translate his experiences and passion for the sea onto the canvas.
